The best Christmas Markets in the Peak District in 2024

As the holiday season approaches, the Peak District transforms into a winter wonderland. With its stone cottages, rolling hills, and historic houses, the region offers a truly magical Christmas experience.

I LOVE Christmas markets – and we have some truly gorgeous ones here in the Peak District, in some remarkable historic settings.

I think Christmas Markets make the turn from autumn to winter something to look forward to here in the Peak District. It is a great way to find high quality, unusual presents made by local artists and other creative types. The best bit (for me!) is wandering around with a mulled wine, soaking up the atmosphere and taking great pictures.

Here are my favourite (so the best :-)) Christmas markets to explore:

Chatsworth House Christmas Market

  • Dates: November 5th – December 3rd, 2024
  • Highlights: Over 100 stalls, stunning illuminations, live music, and delicious festive treats.

Immerse yourself in the festive spirit at Chatsworth House, a magnificent stately home adorned with twinkling lights. Explore a myriad of stalls offering unique gifts, from handcrafted jewellery to gourmet food. Don’t miss the opportunity to sip on warm mulled wine and indulge in delicious festive treats while enjoying live music and carol singing. The visit to the market can be combined with Chatsworth Gardens for only another few quid, which is well worth doing.

Haddon Hall Mercatum Winter Artisan Market

  • Dates: November 16th – December 15th, 2024
  • Highlights: Unique handcrafted gifts, medieval setting, and live music.

Step back in time at Haddon Hall, a stunning medieval manor house, and discover a treasure trove of unique, handcrafted gifts at the Mercatum Winter Artisan Market. Browse through the stalls, where talented artisans showcase their work, from exquisite handcrafted jewellery to cosy knitwear. As you wander through the historic grounds, you’ll be serenaded by live music and captivated by the enchanting atmosphere. This is my personal favourite.

Thornbridge Hall Christmas Market

  • Dates: Weekends from November 15th – December 8th, 2024
  • Highlights: Local crafts, seasonal produce, festive food and drink.

Experience the cosy charm of a traditional Christmas market at Thornbridge Hall. Explore the picturesque grounds and discover a variety of stalls offering everything from handcrafted gifts to delicious treats. Warm up with a cup of mulled wine or indulge in a hearty meal at one of the many food stalls. The stunning backdrop of Thornbridge Hall, with its beautiful gardens and historic architecture, creates a truly magical setting for a festive day out.
